The DRHL Jr Division is a program that provides an opportunity for youth to participate in organized recreational hockey. The aim of the league is to encourage family involvement (siblings play on the same team, parents volunteer in the dressing room and behind the bench).
The mix of adults, adolescents and children provides an environment of learning – about hockey, teamwork, sportsmanship and fair play. There is no championship at stake; while we do keep score, we don’t track standings and we make an effort to balance the teams to maintain fair competition.
Practices/games take place on Wednesdays and Fridays between 4:45 and 8:45. View the schedule for current ice times.
Parents are encouraged to cheer good play on both teams.
Players are required to demonstrate fair play – minimize penalties, encourage other players, pass the puck, demonstrate sportsmanlike behaviour with their own team as well as opponents.
Registration rates are kept as low as possible.
Games are always played at the Rotary Arena in Dauphin minimizing travel during the winter.
Kids play at a level consistent with their abilities
Every effort is made to balance the teams. Coaches may share players to keep things balanced
No Stats are kept, other than limiting players to 3 goals per game to encourage team building
Everyone ages 7-14 are welcome to play regardless of ability, experience, gender or affiliation
Parents are asked to help with getting kids on the ice on time, and by volunteering in any capacity they are able, from coaching to score keeping to helping with the annual tournament and wind up.
